“In 2002 there were 100 floats, now it's 40. But it's no less spectacular. They did a fantastic job.”

40 teams. 700 students. One week of building, rain or shine. Then a parade through central Stockholm.
The name Quarnevalen has been around since 1977, the tradition goes back further. Every three years, 40 student teams spend a week building floats on Valhallavägen, then parade them through Stockholm. Engineering, theatre and a healthy dose of chaos. 16 May, 14:08: Valhallavägen → Odengatan → Sveavägen → Kungsgatan → Sturegatan.
In the autumn of 2025, Quarnevalen's management reached out to Mats Larsson, treasurer of the KTH Sport Foundation. As the owner of KTH-Hallen and a provider of free student projects, the Foundation saw a natural opportunity to collaborate. The meeting resulted in a win-win situation. The Foundation stepped in as a sponsor, and in return, Quarnevalen provided major visibility. Few could have missed the massive banner on the Student Union building featuring the Sport Foundation and KTH-Hallen logos. The practical work was coordinated between Elliot Elmenbeck (Quarnevalen) and Mats Larsson (the Foundation). The photo captures the handshake sealing the agreement.
