40 teams. 700 students. One week of building, rain or shine. Then a parade through central Stockholm.
The name Quarnevalen has been around since 1977, the tradition goes back further. Every three years, 40 student teams spend a week building floats on Valhallavägen, then parade them through Stockholm. Engineering, theatre and a healthy dose of chaos. 16 May, 14:08: Valhallavägen → Odengatan → Sveavägen → Kungsgatan → Sturegatan.
In the autumn of 2025, Quarnevalen's management reached out to Mats Larsson, treasurer of the KTH Sport Foundation. As the owner of KTH-Hallen and a provider of free student projects, the Foundation saw a natural opportunity to collaborate. The meeting resulted in a win-win situation. The Foundation stepped in as a sponsor, and in return, Quarnevalen provided major visibility. Few could have missed the massive banner on the Student Union building featuring the Sport Foundation and KTH-Hallen logos. The practical work was coordinated between Elliot Elmenbeck (Quarnevalen) and Mats Larsson (the Foundation). The photo captures the handshake sealing the agreement.

Building starts the Saturday before the parade. One week on Valhallavägen: welding, painting, covering everything when it rains.
